A unique history and taste
Disaronno Originale celebrated its impressive 500-year journey in 2025. This is not just a drink, but an Italian icon known as the world’s most popular Italian liqueur. The amaretto liqueur has been made with the same secret recipe since 1525 and carries with it a captivating story from the town of Saronno.
According to legend, the recipe originated when Renaissance artist Bernardo Luini – a pupil of Leonardo da Vinci – painted the Madonna image in the local church. The model was a young widow who, as a token of gratitude, gave the artist a drink of her own making, containing oil extracted from apricot kernels and herbs. This unique blend gave rise to the original Disaronno liqueur.
Many have tried to replicate the nuanced flavor of Disaronno Originale, but without success – nothing beats the original. Its rich, aromatic amaretto flavor and deep amber color make it a delight both on its own over ice and as a star ingredient in cocktails. A classic example of this is the Disaronno Sour.
