The history of Château Phélan Ségur is linked to a young Irishman, wine broker Bernard Phelan, who left his home country in the late 18th century to settle in Bordeaux. In 1805, he acquired the Clos de Garamey estate in the Saint-Estèphe region and completed his first acquisition by purchasing the Ségur de Cabanac estate in 1810. After his death, Château Ségur de Garamey passed to his son, who dedicated his life to raising the reputation and quality of the wines. The Château changed hands several times after this. Today, the estate is owned by Philippe Van de Vyvere.
