Description
Late Bottled Vintage developed in the 1950s for the modern consumer, who can’t wait decades for port to age. LBV is matured from four to six years in casks, filtered and ready to consume immediately after bottling without decanting. The price is also clearly cheaper than vintage port. Of course, there has been variation, this Gran Cruz LBV 2001 is almost two decades old, the stopper is made of plain cork and the bottle is likely to have some sediment. Cruz has wanted to make LBV for quality-conscious people, because each filtration reduces taste and age is always a good thing.
