The classic salmon wine is often made from the versatile Chardonnay grape. Choose, for example, an option from the esteemed Burgundy region in France, such as Louis Jadot Couvent des Jacobins Bourgogne Chardonnay. The uncomplicated Chilean Cousiño-Macul Chardonnay also pairs beautifully with salmon.
As a food wine, rosé is often the most versatile choice, and pan-fried salmon also tastes wonderful with the Provençal Domaine Houchart Rosé.
When salmon is grilled or charred, it also pairs nicely with a lighter red wine, such as the French Wolfberger Pinot Noir from the Alsace region. Red wine should also be served slightly chilled with salmon.
